The Department of Surgery provides comprehensive care in the areas of:
- General Surgery;
- Gynaecological Surgeries
- Orthopaedic Surgery;
- Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery;
- Paediatric Surgery;
- Plastic Surgery;
Surgical consultants work with a team of doctors and nurses to provide patient-focused care. Other health care personnel are involved when necessary. Anaesthetists also work closely with the surgical teams. The Department has developed various clinical pathways to facilitate efficient functioning and coordination between care stations. In addition, consultations from various specialties in other clinical disciplines, radiology and laboratory are often sought and are readily available.
Department of Surgery General Surgery Section
The section of General Surgery provides consultative, diagnostic and therapeutic services for a wide range of surgical disorders, including those of the intestinal tract, hernias, breast, biliary tree, liver, pancreas, spleen, rectum, endocrine (including thyroid), vascular system and trauma. The section also offers complete management programmes in diabetic foot care and breast diseases (including prosthesis and reconstruction).
The state-of-the-art operating room suites are equipped for “minimally invasive surgery”. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy and hernia repairs allow patients to return to their daily activities with a shortened recovery time. The endoscopy suite has video capability for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of upper and lower gastrointestinal tract.
The day care surgery theatres offer surgery under local or general anaesthesia on an outpatient basis for several procedures.
